Lindsay will be presenting on the “Phone Apes” program, explaining what it is, why it matters, and how it helps protect gorillas and their habitats. She will share information about coltan, how it is used in our phones, and why recycling old devices can make such a meaningful difference. Lindsay will also explain what happens to collected phones and connect these ideas to the bigger picture of conservation and the impact of small, everyday choices on our planet.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">On Friday, our Grade 8 students travelled to the Lions Hall for a presentation on sustainable gardening practices. They represented our school with pride while learning practical tips for growing vegetables at home, along with strategies that can be applied to our raised garden beds at the front of the school.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">It has been wonderful to see the growth in student writing this year. Teachers have been working together to implement consistent language and instructional practices from Kindergarten through Grade 8, and the progress has been exciting to watch. We truly have some amazing young authors at Bath.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Despite ongoing weather challenges, Running Club continues to train for the LCVI Road Race on Wednesday, May 6, and the NDSS Hawk Run on May 12. This training also provides a strong foundation as we prepare for the upcoming track and field season. We are hoping to schedule our school track and field meet in early May and will share the date as soon as it is finalized. In addition, our Junior Basketball teams will compete in their respective tournaments between May 5–7. It is a very busy and exciting time for school athletics.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" style="text-align: left;"><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Kindergarten Registration and Welcome to Kindergarten Night</strong></b></p><p class="editor-paragraph" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Kindergarten registration is now open! We invite all families with children entering kindergarten to register as soon as possible. Additionally, we will be hosting a Welcome to Kindergarten Night on May 20th, where new students and their families can meet the teachers, explore the classrooms, and learn about what to expect in the upcoming school year. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the </span><i><em class="editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Education Act</em></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the </span><i><em class="editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Education Act</em></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. As we look ahead, there are several short weeks coming up. We have now completed two‑thirds of the school year, with one‑third remaining. It is an amazing time of year to see the progress that our students have made and have a clear idea of the learning journey ahead.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">We know the last few weeks have weighed heavily on our entire school community. We are mindful of the many emotions that students and families continue to carry. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. While this week has been very wet and rainy, the warmer temperatures of spring are upon us. Day – Friday, April 17</strong></b></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">A reminder to families that tomorrow, Friday, April 17, is a P.A. Day. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in May</strong></b></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. Reviewing and analyzing this information helps support safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments and supports the board’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The findings support planning and decision-making that promotes equity, well being, and student success across Limestone schools. In fact, Limestone is performing at or above the provincial average in nearly all measures.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">These results reflect the collective efforts of Limestone educators, Educational Assistants, program teams, and school leaders—supported by the ongoing commitment of students and families across our district. It offers a look at how planning connects to practice as we work together toward positive outcomes for all Limestone students.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Revisions to Grades 7, 8, and 10 History Curriculum</strong></b></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The Minister of Education has announced updates to the Grades 7, 8, and 10 History curriculum for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">With these updates, in Grades 7, 8, and 10, students will learn about significant contributions of Black individuals and communities to Canada’s foundation as a nation, and the obstacles they faced in the pursuit of building an inclusive and prosperous country.
