It’s hard to believe we have just 30 days of school remaining—what an incredible time of year as we celebrate learning, growth, and achievement together.This past week was full of exciting opportunities for our students. From the Sustainability Fair and soccer practices and tryouts, to EQAO preparation, field trips, the job fair, and ongoing track and field events—it has truly been a week to celebrate student engagement and success. Thank you to our staff and volunteers for making these meaningful experiences possible.As always, we encourage families to continue checking School-Day and weekly newsletters to stay informed and provide permission for school activities.Track and Field DayFriday’s in-school Track and Field Day was a tremendous success. It was wonderful to welcome so many families and to see our students demonstrate their athleticism, teamwork, and sportsmanship across all events. Whether running, jumping, or competing in field events, students showed great effort and perseverance throughout the day.A sincere thank you to our teachers and staff for their organization and commitment in making the day so memorable. We also extend our appreciation to everyone who supported the Grade 8 Graduation barbecue and canteen, which raised an impressive $850. Go Knights Go!Presentations and Guest SpeakersOn Friday, students in Grades 1–6 enjoyed an engaging Earth Rangers presentation focused on environmental conservation and the importance of protecting our planet.Looking ahead, we are pleased to welcome Michael Laughlin to our school on May 28 at 2:00 p.m. Michael is a professional speaker and Canada’s first above-knee amputee full-time firefighter. He shares his powerful personal story of resilience, overcoming adversity, and perseverance in an age-appropriate and inspiring way for students. Supports remain in place and will continue to be available for as long as they are needed. Counselling staff and mental health supports are available to students and staff who may benefit from them.Student safety remains our highest priority. We take all concerns related to safety and wellbeing seriously and are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment across all our schools.As shared with you on Friday, Limestone has engaged an outside party to conduct a review of the existing policies and procedures related to safe schools, to identify any areas where improvements could be made, and to provide any potential recommendations. The board has engaged Dr. Wendy Craig from Queen’s University who brings expertise related to safe schools to lead this review.As a school our focus continues to be supporting students, staff, and families as we continue to grieve and heal together as a community.We remain committed to working with families to maintain a safe and respectful school community. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. It was inspiring to see them confidently share their learning and make meaningful connections to environmental issues.Our cross-country runners participated in the LCVI Road Race, demonstrating impressive grit and determination despite rainy, cool conditions. We are proud of their perseverance and wish them continued success as they prepare for the upcoming NDSS Hawk Run and our school Track and Field Day.On Thursday, our Junior Basketball teams competed in their season tournament, representing our school with skill, effort, and excellent sportsmanship.Looking ahead, our Grade 8 students will showcase their sustainable energy projects on Monday as part of their Science learning. Students have designed and built models of various energy sources and evaluated their viability based on research, considering their potential use within Canada.Our school Track and Field Day will take place on May 13 (rain date: May 14). Students in Grades 3–8 will participate in a variety of events, and families are warmly invited to attend and cheer them on. A cash canteen will be available, and hot dogs can be pre-ordered through School-Day. With a busy May already underway, we are hopeful for beautiful weather!On May 15, Earth Rangers will visit for an engaging and informative assembly for students in Grades 1–6. Earth Rangers is a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental education and conservation. Be sure to have sunscreen, a hat, and water. Electronics are not allowed. Other races are timed finals. Students participating in the long jump will have a practice jump and one measured jump. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. It was a wonderful day that highlighted inclusion, teamwork, and the celebration of student strengths. Thank you to our families and staff for supporting this meaningful opportunity.As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community.This week, we were also pleased to welcome Rae MacDonald, who worked with several classes to explore music and sound using materials provided by the Limestone Learning Foundation. Students thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on learning experience.Mr. Nickel's class showed off their learning in the PIT, presenting and posters about a topic that is important to them and the environment. They are working on orally communicating their knowledge in a concise and precise way - great job! Thank you for sharing your work and passion.We ended the week with a PRIDE Assembly focused on determination. We are proud of the many ways our students demonstrate determination—through their learning, in athletics, and during challenging moments.Our athletes have been busy preparing for upcoming events, with junior basketball, junior soccer, road races, and track and field all overlapping this spring. Our school Track and Field Day is scheduled for May 13, with a rain date of May 14. Students in Grades 4–8 will compete in a variety of events at the school level. Families are welcome to join us and cheer them on. A cash canteen will be available, and hot dogs can be pre-ordered through School-Day in advance. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.If you wish to subscribe to this insurance, you may do so by completing the form handed out to students the first week of school and mailing it directly to Reliable Life Insurance Company in the stamped envelope provided. Limestone Students Shine at the 2026 Ontario Skills Competition

Limestone District School Board students showcased their outstanding skills and talent at the 2026 Skills Ontario Competition, held in Toronto on May 4 and 5, 2026.The Skills Ontario Competition offers a unique opportunity for top students from across the province to demonstrate that they are truly the best in their field. Over two and a half days, competitors impress educators, family members, friends, and potential employers through hands-on, real‑world challenges. Upcoming Family Engagement and Climate Survey

The Limestone District School Board is inviting families to take part in the Family Engagement and Climate Survey. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. It also supports schools and school councils in building welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.The survey includes questions about:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">How schools communicate and share information</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Whether families feel welcome, included, and connected</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Barriers to taking part in school activities, such as time, childcare, language, accessibility, or cost</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Safety and bullying, including reporting and follow‑up</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Licensed Before and After School Programs, including questions to help inform future planning</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">Some questions ask about family background to help us better understand different experiences across our communities</li></ul>Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Families may skip any questions they choose. No names or identifying information are collected. Results are shared only as grouped summaries and are used to support learning, planning, and improvement at the board, school, and school council levels.The survey will be open from May 1 to May 11 and will be available online. Families will receive an e-mail on May 1 with a link to the survey. Dear Families,As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. This time of <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">year</a> brings many opportunities for learning both inside and outside of the classroom, along with the return of outdoor extracurricular activities. While this week has been very wet and rainy, the warmer temperatures of spring are upon us.  I would like to take this opportunity to share a few important updates with you:P.A. Day – Friday, April 17A reminder to families that tomorrow, Friday, April 17, is a P.A. Day. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in MayIn early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. Reviewing and analyzing this information helps support safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments and supports the board’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The findings support planning and decision-making that promotes equity, well being, and student success across Limestone schools. An overview of the Student Census 2025 was presented to the Board of Trustees at last night’s board meeting.
