We have loved being able to take our learning and sports activities outdoors to enjoy the sunshine and warmer temperatures. As layers come on and off throughout the day, we encourage families to have students check the lost and found for any missing items—our collection has grown quite large!</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">A huge thank you to School Advisory Council (SAC) and Brookland Homes for their generous donation of new outdoor sports equipment. It is already being put to great use, and our students are thoroughly enjoying it.</span></p><h3 class="editor-heading-h3"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Celebration of Life</span></h3><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Tomorrow, the Celebration of Life for Liam will take place on Saturday at the MacKinnon Brothers Barn, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.. We hold Liam and his family close in our thoughts as the community gathers to honour his life and offer support.</span></p><h3 class="editor-heading-h3"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Earth Day</span></h3><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">We had a very busy and meaningful Earth Day this week. Students were fortunate to hear from Lindsay, a 14‑year‑old environmental activist, who shared her inspiring journey and activism goals. Lindsay has been working since the age of seven to raise awareness about recycling cell phones and electronic devices to help reduce the need for mining in sensitive gorilla habitats.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">To support this important work, a recycling box for used cell phones, headphones, and tablets will be available in the school office for the remainder of the school year. Families are welcome to send in any items they wish to recycle.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In addition, classes took action close to home by helping clean up our school yard and neighbouring parks. Thank you to our students and staff for taking pride in our shared environment!</span></p><h3 class="editor-heading-h3"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Music at Bath PS</span></h3><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">We are excited to see our music program in action with Rae MacDonald, whose lessons are already bringing great energy to classrooms. Students are enjoying hands-on music experiences, and we are grateful to have this opportunity to enrich learning through the arts.</span></p><h3 class="editor-heading-h3"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Dental Presentations – Monday</span></h3><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Dental health presentations will take place on Monday, beginning at 11:40 a.m. These sessions are part of our ongoing commitment to student well-being and healthy habits.</span></p><h3 class="editor-heading-h3"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Elementary Sports Festival / Special Olympics</span></h3><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Also on Monday, students participating in the Elementary Sports Festival / Special Olympics will be attending the event at </span><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">LCVI</strong></b><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">. This is always a wonderful day of inclusion, teamwork, and celebration of student strengths. We invite all families with children entering kindergarten to register as soon as possible. Additionally, we will be hosting a Welcome to Kindergarten Night on May 20th, where new students and their families can meet the teachers, explore the classrooms, and learn about what to expect in the upcoming school year. In these cases, we ask that you submit a written request directly to Mrs. Paquin indicating the reasons for your request. The request should identify the optimal conditions for your child’s success but should not indicate a specific teacher request. We will do our best to accommodate your child’s needs but cannot guarantee specific placements at this time. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the </span><i><em class="editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Education Act</em></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Lindsay will be presenting on the “Phone Apes” program, explaining what it is, why it matters, and how it helps protect gorillas and their habitats. She will share information about coltan, how it is used in our phones, and why recycling old devices can make such a meaningful difference. Lindsay will also explain what happens to collected phones and connect these ideas to the bigger picture of conservation and the impact of small, everyday choices on our planet.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">On Friday, our Grade 8 students travelled to the Lions Hall for a presentation on sustainable gardening practices. They represented our school with pride while learning practical tips for growing vegetables at home, along with strategies that can be applied to our raised garden beds at the front of the school.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">It has been wonderful to see the growth in student writing this year. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the </span><i><em class="editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Education Act</em></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the </span><i><em class="editor-text-italic" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Education Act</em></i><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">If you wish to subscribe to this insurance, you may do so by completing the form handed out to students the first week of school and mailing it directly to Reliable Life Insurance Company in the stamped envelope provided. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. <p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Dear Families,</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. This time of </span><a href="about:blank" class="editor-link"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">year</span></a><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> brings many opportunities for learning both inside and outside of the classroom, along with the return of outdoor extracurricular activities. While this week has been very wet and rainy, the warmer temperatures of spring are upon us. I would like to take this opportunity to share a few important updates with you:</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">P.A. Day – Friday, April 17</strong></b></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">A reminder to families that tomorrow, Friday, April 17, is a P.A. Day. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><b><strong class="editor-text-bold" style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in May</strong></b></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. Reviewing and analyzing this information helps support safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments and supports the board’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The findings support planning and decision-making that promotes equity, well being, and student success across Limestone schools. Students may react in different ways depending on their age, experiences, and how connected they feel to the situation. With time, reassurance, and support from caring adults, these reactions often ease.</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">We encourage families to keep lines of communication open at home, to invite questions, and to offer reassurance as needed.
