Dear Bath Families,
Earth Day is coming up on April 22, and this year we are pleased to welcome Lindsay, a 13‑year‑old environmental activist, to our school. Lindsay will be presenting on the “Phone Apes” program, explaining what it is, why it matters, and how it helps protect gorillas and their habitats. She will share information about coltan, how it is used in our phones, and why recycling old devices can make such a meaningful difference. Lindsay will also explain what happens to collected phones and connect these ideas to the bigger picture of conservation and the impact of small, everyday choices on our planet.
On Friday, our Grade 8 students travelled to the Lions Hall for a presentation on sustainable gardening practices. They represented our school with pride while learning practical tips for growing vegetables at home, along with strategies that can be applied to our raised garden beds at the front of the school.
It has been wonderful to see the growth in student writing this year. Teachers have been working together to implement consistent language and instructional practices from Kindergarten through Grade 8, and the progress has been exciting to watch. We truly have some amazing young authors at Bath.
Despite ongoing weather challenges, Running Club continues to train for the LCVI Road Race on Wednesday, May 6, and the NDSS Hawk Run on May 12. This training also provides a strong foundation as we prepare for the upcoming track and field season. We are hoping to schedule our school track and field meet in early May and will share the date as soon as it is finalized. In addition, our Junior Basketball teams will compete in their respective tournaments between May 5–7. It is a very busy and exciting time for school athletics.
Kindergarten Registration and Welcome to Kindergarten Night
Kindergarten registration is now open! We invite all families with children entering kindergarten to register as soon as possible. Additionally, we will be hosting a Welcome to Kindergarten Night on May 20th, where new students and their families can meet the teachers, explore the classrooms, and learn about what to expect in the upcoming school year. We look forward to welcoming our newest students!
EQAO Preparation
At this time of year, our grade 3 and 6 students begin preparing for the upcoming EQAO assessments. Teachers are working to ensure that students are ready and feel confident. Families are encouraged to visit www.eqao.com for more information, sample questions and webinars. Together, we can help our students succeed!
Class Placement Requests
We recognize that, in a few individual cases, there may be important reasons why a specific placement is necessary. In these cases, we ask that you submit a written request directly to Mrs. Paquin indicating the reasons for your request. The request should identify the optimal conditions for your child’s success but should not indicate a specific teacher request. We will do our best to accommodate your child’s needs but cannot guarantee specific placements at this time. All written requests must be received no later than Friday, May 15th

Human Development and Sexual Health
As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8. Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.

Student Accident Insurance
The Limestone District School Board requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.
Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.
In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.
A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.

Bath School Advisory Council
Our fabulous parent council is looking for new members! If you would like to be a part of this great team, please come to our next meeting date is May 27th at 6:30. We are looking forward to meeting in the library. Please let us know if you can make it and if you will require childcare. We are pleased to be able to provide it during the meeting for those who require it.
School Trips and Volunteers
Throughout the year, we may ask for parent/guardian volunteers on school trips or for various classroom and school activities. The wait time for obtaining a CPIC (background check with vulnerable sector screening) can be lengthy. As such, if you think you would be willing to assist with a trip or school event in the future, please consider obtaining a CPIC with vulnerable sector screening completed, beforehand.

Indigenous Student Leadership Team
Liv Rondeau and Rae McDonald will be coming to work with the Indigenous Student Leadership Team (Gr. 3-8) on the following dates from 9:30 - 11:30:
September 26th, October 30th, November 28th, December 19th, January 27, February 27th, March 27th, April 24th, May 28th, June 19th
They will be working on a mural to showcase the importance of reconciliation and indigenous ways of knowing, as well year-long land-based programing. If we have missed anyone who self-identifies as Indigenous and would like to be a part of this group, please let us know.
