June11

Dear Bath Families,

It was a busy and exciting week at Bath Public School, filled with a variety of opportunities for students to learn, connect, and celebrate their successes.

Our athletes represented Bath with pride at the District Track and Field Meet, demonstrating strong effort, perseverance, and sportsmanship, including a number of students who participated in the All Abilities events.

We also had a special visit from Barrack the Bear, the Kingston Frontenacs mascot, who spent time with Ms. McGrath and Ms. Bauml’s class, taking pictures and video that may be featured in a video to promote the Frontenacs season and the Bell Let’s Talk game—an event they hope to extend to our entire school community.

This week, all classes participate in Brave program workshops, which focuses on building confidence, resilience, and positive relationships; we are very grateful to the Lion’s Club for generously supporting this opportunity for our students.

On Thursday, two of our teams competed in the Ultimate Frisbee tournament, where both teams represented Bath extremely well, and our girls’ team finished the day undefeated. As we look ahead, the final two weeks of school will be jam-packed with activities, events, and celebrations as we wrap up our year together.

Memorial Tree Planting

As the school year comes to an end, all students and staff will be invited to attend a brief memorial and tree planting at the front of the school to honour and remember Liam Gatto. The ceremony will take place on June 22 at 2:45 p.m.

Each class will be invited to participate by pouring water at the base of the tree as a symbolic gesture to support its growth. If you feel this may not be appropriate for your child, please let their teacher know.

Following the ceremony, students will have time to enjoy outdoor activities, such as chalk drawing and play, before dismissal.

Indigenous People's Day

This week we are pleased to welcome Knowledge Keeper Judy Montgomery to our school in recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day. Her visit provides an important opportunity for students to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Indigenous perspectives and teachings.

Rainbow Run

Our Kindergarten students have been enthusiastically preparing for their upcoming Rainbow Run, taking place on Tuesday. Families are invited to cheer them on from the Kindergarten yard as they complete their 1 km run. Following the run, students will celebrate with a hot dog barbecue alongside their Grade 8 buddies.

Tour de France

On Wednesday, our French team is hosting a school-wide “Tour de France” experience. Students will work within their colour houses to rotate through a variety of engaging French-themed stations, including building an Eiffel Tower, creating art in the library, participating in a dance party in the gym, playing soccer, completing an obstacle course, and enjoying a French food tasting. Our intermediate students will take on leadership roles by supporting each station, and we are excited to share that, through a French grant, fresh crêpes will be provided as part of the experience.

Attention Grade 8 Students

Grade 8 students have the opportunity to enrol in Grade 10 Careers and Civics during the 2026 Summer Session.

Taking Careers and Civics early allows students greater flexibility in later years, such as selecting an additional elective in Grade 10 (e.g. an extra science course) or having an additional spare in Grade 11.

Please  find some important notes below.

Summer Session Registration:

  • LDSB students can register for LDSB Summer Session courses using this Summer Session Registration Form.  Students must complete the form using the Limestone Account and will need their OEN (available on report cards) to register.
  • Students can register for at most 1 course in Summer Session (or both half credit Civics and Careers).  Students registering for Civics and Careers need to chose carefully whether they are registering for both Civics (CHV 2O) and Careers (GLC 2O) or just one in the form.
  • Students should ensure that they have the prerequisite for any course they are signing up for in Summer Session.
  • Registration closes on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
  • All courses are conditional on teacher availability and sufficient enrollment.  Students will be notified prior to June 29th if their course is not running.
  • Please be aware that students will be registered in Prism (our e-learning system) and so will receive a waitlist email from the OeLC when that happens.  Going on a waitlist is a regular part of the registration practice for e-learning courses and summer session courses in Prism don't actually open for students to be picked up until mid- to late-May. Looking forward to another great week ahead!

Supports for Students and Families

We know many members of our school community are still carrying the weight of the recent months. Supports remain in place and will continue to be available for as long as they are needed. Counselling staff and mental health supports are available to students and staff who may benefit from them.

Student safety remains our highest priority. We take all concerns related to safety and wellbeing seriously and are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment across all our schools.

As shared with you on Friday, Limestone has engaged an outside party to conduct a review of the existing policies and procedures related to safe schools, to identify any areas where improvements could be made, and to provide any potential recommendations. The board has engaged Dr. Wendy Craig from Queen’s University who brings expertise related to safe schools to lead this review.

As a school our focus continues to be supporting students, staff, and families as we continue to grieve and heal together as a community.

We remain committed to working with families to maintain a safe and respectful school community. Please do not hesitate to reach out if your student may benefit from additional support.

  Grief

Signs that may signal a mental health concern in your child:

  • Frequent changes in mood or emotions
  • Persistent sadness or loss of interest in usual activities
  • Increased need for reassurance or contact
  • Irritability or low frustration tolerance
  • Changes in energy, sleep, or appetite
  • Declining motivation, effort, or academic performance

Difficult events can affect adults as well as children. Paying attention to your own well-being—by taking breaks, connecting with trusted supports, and allowing yourself time to process—can help you feel more steady and better able to support your child.

Human Development and Sexual Health

As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8.  Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.

Each Sunday, Bath P.S. will send home a link to this weekly newsletter (Knights News) including information about the week ahead along with other information about upcoming events, our School Council, volunteer opportunities and more. insurance

Student Accident Insurance

The Limestone District School Board requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.

Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.

In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.

A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.

If you wish to subscribe to this insurance, you may do so by completing the form handed out to students the first week of school and mailing it directly to Reliable Life Insurance Company in the stamped envelope provided. Or, for your convenience, you may purchase directly online at www.insuremykids.com.

School Trips and Volunteers

Throughout the year, we may ask for parent/guardian volunteers on school trips or for various classroom and school activities. The wait time for obtaining a CPIC (background check with vulnerable sector screening) can be lengthy. As such, if you think you would be willing to assist with a trip or school event in the future, please consider obtaining a CPIC with vulnerable sector screening completed, beforehand.
