Dear Families,

art

Happy Fall, y’all!

It was wonderful to see so many families at our recent open house. The energy was fantastic, and both students and teachers were excited to welcome you into our classrooms and share the amazing work we've been doing together.

On Friday afternoon, all classes participated in a community walk around the neighbourhood to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation. Not only was it a meaningful way to support a great cause, but it was also a lovely opportunity to enjoy time outdoors together in our beautiful community.

It’s hard to believe we’re already heading into October!

Our School Council held its first meeting this week and successfully elected this year’s executive team. We’re looking forward to a great year of collaboration and school spirit.

Co-Chairs: Kristi Marucci & Stephanie Black

Co-Treasurers: Krista Payne & Katie Murrell

Sectetary: Katie Whitfield

Kinder/Primary Rep: Andrea Conrad

Junior/Intermediate Rep: Shandy Brown

Fundraising Coordinator: Deanna Carroll & Katie Whitfield

PIC Rep: Stephanie Black

However, don't feel that you have to be part of the exec to take part. The next School Council meeting is scheduled for October 15th and all are welcome. If you ever have ideas or need help with a school related issue, this is another great group to reach out to.

September 30 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Tuesday, September 30th is Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation- This is a special day when we wear orange shirts to remember and honor Indigenous children who were taken away from their families and communities to attend residential schools. It's a time for us to learn about their stories, show respect, and work towards a future where everyone is treated fairly and with kindness. The color orange reminds us that every child matters and that we should always support each other. This year, our school has set a special intention for the year:

We are pleased to welcome Alyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk—a Métis culture expert, accomplished fiddle player, and educator—who will share her knowledge and artistry with our Grade 3–8 students.

The assembly is scheduled to begin promptly at 9:15 AM in the gym and is expected to last approximately one hour.

“Métis Music, Story & Fiddle” – Elementary Assembly (Grades 3–8): A fun, interactive performance that introduces young students to Métis culture through traditional fiddle music, storytelling, and engaging songs tied to Social Studies, Music, and Language outcomes.

New soccer balls!! - Thank you to Logan McArthur and familiy and the Lions club for donating new outdoor soccer balls for our school!

Fire Drills - We have two fire drills scheduled for next week. Teachers will review emergency procedures with their classes prior. Please discuss this with your child if you feel it will cause them any anxiety.

Human Rights Video and N-work document - On Monday afternoon Admin will be going to grade 4-8 classes to share the board Human Rights video and N-word document. Parents can view these resources here: Human Rights video; N-word poster.

Fresh From the Farm - A reminder that families have until October 6th to purchase vegetable and apple baskets on School Day. These items will be available for pick up during the first weeks of November (date to be announced).

Data verification forms will be sent home this week. Please:

  • review the information on the front and back
  • ensure 3-4 people are listed as contacts if we need to get ahold of someone
  • sign and return the form as soon as possible so we can update our system

Any legal documents (i.e., custody agreements, etc.) should be provided to the school for the student's Ontario Student Record.

Sincerely,

Jean Paquin - Principal & Kevin Collins - Vice Principal

Human Development and Sexual Health

As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8.  Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.

insurance

Student Accident Insurance

The Limestone District School Board requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.

Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.

In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.

A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.

If you wish to subscribe to this insurance, you may do so by completing the form handed out to students the first week of school and mailing it directly to Reliable Life Insurance Company in the stamped envelope provided. Or, for your convenience, you may purchase directly online at www.insuremykids.com.

Bath School Advisory Council

Our fabulous parent council is looking for new members! If you would like to be a part of this great team, please come to our next meeting date is October 15th at 6:30. We are looking forward to meeting in the library. Please let us know if you can make it and if you will require childcare. We are pleased to be able to provide it during the meeting for those who require it.

School Trips and Volunteers

Throughout the year, we may ask for parent/guardian volunteers on school trips or for various classroom and school activities. The wait time for obtaining a CPIC (background check with vulnerable sector screening) can be lengthy. As such, if you think you would be willing to assist with a trip or school event in the future, please consider obtaining a CPIC with vulnerable sector screening completed, beforehand.
