Dear Bath Families,
Wishing a very happy Mother's day to all who celebrate - honouring all the people who have shaped our lives with nurturing love.
It has been a wonderful week of showcasing and celebrating student learning, skills, and growth across the school.
On Wednesday, our Grade 7 students presented their environmental posters, engaging in thoughtful discussions with visiting classes. It was inspiring to see them confidently share their learning and make meaningful connections to environmental issues.
Our cross-country runners participated in the LCVI Road Race, demonstrating impressive grit and determination despite rainy, cool conditions. We are proud of their perseverance and wish them continued success as they prepare for the upcoming NDSS Hawk Run and our school Track and Field Day.
On Thursday, our Junior Basketball teams competed in their season tournament, representing our school with skill, effort, and excellent sportsmanship.
Looking ahead, our Grade 8 students will showcase their sustainable energy projects on Monday as part of their Science learning. Students have designed and built models of various energy sources and evaluated their viability based on research, considering their potential use within Canada.
Our school Track and Field Day will take place on May 13 (rain date: May 14). Students in Grades 3–8 will participate in a variety of events, and families are warmly invited to attend and cheer them on. A cash canteen will be available, and hot dogs can be pre-ordered through School-Day. With a busy May already underway, we are hopeful for beautiful weather!
On May 15, Earth Rangers will visit for an engaging and informative assembly for students in Grades 1–6. Earth Rangers is a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental education and conservation. This year’s presentation is designed as a fast-paced game show, where students work together to answer questions, make eco-conscious decisions, and tackle environmental challenges while learning important science concepts.
As always, please continue to check School-Day for important updates, including purchases such as hot dogs, as well as field trip and sports permission forms.

Supports for Students and Families
We know many of you are still carrying the weight of recent weeks. This, on top of recent developments, may bring a range of feelings, additional questions and concerns. Please know that supports remain in place and will continue to be available for as long as they are needed. Counselling staff and mental health supports continue to be available to those who need them.
Student safety remains our highest priority. We take all concerns related to safety and wellbeing seriously. We are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive and respectful learning environment across all our schools.
We are reviewing relevant policies and procedures to ensure they are strong, clear, and consistently applied across all schools throughout the board. We are committed to learning from this tragedy and will take meaningful action to strengthen student safety and supports going forward.
We will provide opportunities for families and the broader community to receive information and engage with independent experts as part of our ongoing response. We will have more to share on that in the coming days and weeks ahead.
For now, our focus remains on supporting students, staff, and families as we continue to grieve and heal.
We are committed to working with families to maintain a safe and respectful school community. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss anything further.
Signs that may signal a mental health concern in your child:
- Frequent changes in mood or emotions
- Persistent sadness or loss of interest in usual activities
- Increased need for reassurance or contact
- Irritability or low frustration tolerance
- Changes in energy, sleep, or appetite
- Declining motivation, effort, or academic performance
Difficult events can affect adults as well as children. Paying attention to your own well-being—by taking breaks, connecting with trusted supports, and allowing yourself time to process—can help you feel more steady and better able to support your child.

Human Development and Sexual Health
As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8. Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.
Information Sharing
Each Sunday, Bath P.S. will send home a link to this weekly newsletter (Knights News) including information about the week ahead along with other information about upcoming events, our School Council, volunteer opportunities and more. However, LDSB also has a range of other communication tools to help you stay informed.

Student Accident Insurance
The Limestone District School Board requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.
Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.
In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.
A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.
If you wish to subscribe to this insurance, you may do so by completing the form handed out to students the first week of school and mailing it directly to Reliable Life Insurance Company in the stamped envelope provided. Or, for your convenience, you may purchase directly online at www.insuremykids.com.

School Trips and Volunteers
Throughout the year, we may ask for parent/guardian volunteers on school trips or for various classroom and school activities. The wait time for obtaining a CPIC (background check with vulnerable sector screening) can be lengthy. As such, if you think you would be willing to assist with a trip or school event in the future, please consider obtaining a CPIC with vulnerable sector screening completed, beforehand.
