Gorilla Presentation

Dear Bath Families,

It finally feels like spring has arrived! We have loved being able to take our learning and sports activities outdoors to enjoy the sunshine and warmer temperatures. As layers come on and off throughout the day, we encourage families to have students check the lost and found for any missing items—our collection has grown quite large!

A huge thank you to School Advisory Council (SAC) and Brookland Homes for their generous donation of new outdoor sports equipment. It is already being put to great use, and our students are thoroughly enjoying it.

Celebration of Life

Tomorrow, the Celebration of Life for Liam will take place on Saturday at the MacKinnon Brothers Barn, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.. We hold Liam and his family close in our thoughts as the community gathers to honour his life and offer support.

Earth Day

We had a very busy and meaningful Earth Day this week. Students were fortunate to hear from Lindsay, a 14‑year‑old environmental activist, who shared her inspiring journey and activism goals. Lindsay has been working since the age of seven to raise awareness about recycling cell phones and electronic devices to help reduce the need for mining in sensitive gorilla habitats.

To support this important work, a recycling box for used cell phones, headphones, and tablets will be available in the school office for the remainder of the school year. Families are welcome to send in any items they wish to recycle.

In addition, classes took action close to home by helping clean up our school yard and neighbouring parks. Thank you to our students and staff for taking pride in our shared environment!

Music at Bath PS

We are excited to see our music program in action with Rae MacDonald, whose lessons are already bringing great energy to classrooms. Students are enjoying hands-on music experiences, and we are grateful to have this opportunity to enrich learning through the arts.

Dental Presentations – Monday

Dental health presentations will take place on Monday, beginning at 11:40 a.m. These sessions are part of our ongoing commitment to student well-being and healthy habits.

Elementary Sports Festival / Special Olympics

Also on Monday, students participating in the Elementary Sports Festival / Special Olympics will be attending the event at LCVI. This is always a wonderful day of inclusion, teamwork, and celebration of student strengths. Thank you to families and staff for supporting this special opportunity.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community.

Kindergarten Registration and Welcome to Kindergarten Night

Kindergarten registration is now open! We invite all families with children entering kindergarten to register as soon as possible. Additionally, we will be hosting a Welcome to Kindergarten Night on May 20th, where new students and their families can meet the teachers, explore the classrooms, and learn about what to expect in the upcoming school year. We look forward to welcoming our newest students!

EQAO Preparation

At this time of year, our grade 3 and 6 students begin preparing for the upcoming EQAO assessments. Teachers are working to ensure that students are ready and feel confident. Families are encouraged to visit www.eqao.com for more information, sample questions and webinars. Together, we can help our students succeed!

Class Placement Requests

We recognize that, in a few individual cases, there may be important reasons why a specific placement is necessary. In these cases, we ask that you submit a written request directly to Mrs. Paquin indicating the reasons for your request. The request should identify the optimal conditions for your child’s success but should not indicate a specific teacher request. We will do our best to accommodate your child’s needs but cannot guarantee specific placements at this time. All written requests must be received no later than Friday, May 15th

Grief

Signs that may signal a mental health concern in your child:

  • Frequent changes in mood or emotions
  • Persistent sadness or loss of interest in usual activities
  • Increased need for reassurance or contact
  • Irritability or low frustration tolerance
  • Changes in energy, sleep, or appetite
  • Declining motivation, effort, or academic performance

Difficult events can affect adults as well as children. Paying attention to your own well-being—by taking breaks, connecting with trusted supports, and allowing yourself time to process—can help you feel more steady and better able to support your child.

Human Development and Sexual Health

As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8.  Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.

stay informedInformation Sharing

Each Sunday, Bath P.S. will send home a link to this weekly newsletter (Knights News) including information about the week ahead along with other information about upcoming events, our School Council, volunteer opportunities and more. However, LDSB also has a range of other communication tools to help you stay informed.

To help users become more familiar with these new tools, please refer to these user guides:

insurance

Student Accident Insurance

The Limestone District School Board requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.

Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.

In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.

A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.

If you wish to subscribe to this insurance, you may do so by completing the form handed out to students the first week of school and mailing it directly to Reliable Life Insurance Company in the stamped envelope provided. Or, for your convenience, you may purchase directly online at www.insuremykids.com.

SAC

Bath School Advisory Council

Our fabulous parent council is looking for new members! If you would like to be a part of this great team, please come to our next meeting date is May 27th at 6:30. We are looking forward to meeting in the library. Please let us know if you can make it and if you will require childcare. We are pleased to be able to provide it during the meeting for those who require it.

School Trips and Volunteers

Throughout the year, we may ask for parent/guardian volunteers on school trips or for various classroom and school activities. The wait time for obtaining a CPIC (background check with vulnerable sector screening) can be lengthy. As such, if you think you would be willing to assist with a trip or school event in the future, please consider obtaining a CPIC with vulnerable sector screening completed, beforehand.
